Espresso Update: Q2—2025

Background

Last year, David wrote a tract in Portuguese called “Tu És Alguém Importante Para Deus” (“You Are Someone Important to God”) addressing the fact that people are frequently told they are no one. The tract was revised with ChatGPT, his Portuguese tutor and our Brazilian partner. The purpose of the tract was to show through Scripture that individuals are important to God, pointing out they are both created in the image of God and sinners by nature and by choice. The solution to this being that Christ died for their sins, was buried, resurrected and that this did indeed happen.

This tract has been foundational conversations David has had with folks.

Preparing for Easter

As Easter was approaching, we planned what would be a large outreach campaign. The idea was simple: distribute postcards that would direct folks to our website where they could watch a short video and hopefully meet with a pastor for coffee to talk about their need for salvation.

We distributed thousands of cards. Other missionaries got involved and the ministry had the collaboration of Americans, Brazilians, Portuguese and Canadians.

While we distributed the flyers it began to rain and some of the folks ended up quite drenched. In spite of this rain, there was a great time of prayer, fellowship, evangelism and of course pizza.

Cidade Colina

The goal for most church planters, including our family, is to turn a work over to nationals and native speakers as soon as possible. Sometimes this takes decades. Sometimes the Lord intervenes, and it happens much sooner. We rejoice in God that the Brazilian missionary and the local church we were working with reached a place where they felt confident enough to take over the ministry without our family.

This is a major step forward for Cidade Colina and the work in Palmela. It does not mean the work is fully matured, but it is a necessary step toward that maturity. Please continue to pray for Cidade Colina and its out reach in the community of Palmela.

What’s Next?

We’re glad you asked. We do not know yet, but we are diligently seeking the will of God regarding this. For now, we are focused on other approaches to outreach and where we can be best used.

We plan to be in the States at the beginning of June 2026. Until then, we ask for your prayers for: 1) Wisdom regarding our next steps, and 2) That a zeal for outreach and evangelism will continue to grow in Palmela and throughout Portugal.
